The Middle Society

The Middle Debating Society is aimed at students in Year 9-10, as well as more experienced debaters from Year 8. The Society meets on a Tuesday lunchtime between 1.30pm and 2.15pm. With around 25-30 members, the Society carries out a mixture of activities, focusing mainly on the BP (British Parliamentary) style of debating: more details of this can be found under Introduction to Debating. Some weeks, the Society looks at the skills needed for this but the emphasis is on practising these skills through lunchtime BP debates. Debaters from the Senior Society regularly chair these debates, giving feedback and mentoring the Years 9-10.

The Society welcomes all students who would like to come along - no previous experience is necessary!

There are currently very few competitions aimed at Middle debaters but the Society is beginning to prepare for the key date - the International Competition for Young Debaters in the Lent term. We are also hoping to set up some local fixtures, plus there will be the new House Debating competitions in February/March.
