At the heart of the School is the RGS Library – a welcoming and quiet space for students to read and study throughout the day.

Officially re-opened in 2001 by the former Poet Laureate Andrew Motion, it’s a venue for the School’s many reading clubs:

• Literary society
• Lower School & Middle School Book Club

The Library’s extensive collection of books is regularly updated. Fiction is varied and deliberately chosen to explore themes, subjects and topics which will spark interest and enjoyment. Non-fiction is carefully selected to support students’ academic goals.

Displays in the Library highlight events, literary festivals and national celebrations. Online, this is supported by features such as author of the month, word of the week, competitions, puzzles and book reviews – which are written by our students.

To broaden our students’ academic and literary interests there are several initiatives. The Reading Passport for Lower School encourages younger readers to explore a range of fiction from timeless classics, to modern best-sellers.
